Nearest Train Stations to Waterlooville & How to Reach Them

Waterlooville does not have its own railway station, so anyone travelling by train needs to reach one of four nearby stations: Bedhampton, Havant, Cosham or Rowlands Castle. Using each station's published grid reference against central Waterlooville, the straight-line distances work out at roughly 2.3 miles to Bedhampton, 2.8 miles to Havant, 3.1 miles to Cosham and 3.3 miles to Rowlands Castle — all genuinely close, though actual road or bus journeys will be longer than the straight-line figure.

Havant railway station

Havant is the biggest and most useful of the four for most journeys. It sits on the main line between Portsmouth and London Waterloo (South Western Railway) and also has Southern services running along the coast towards Brighton and Chichester. It's the station with the most frequent services and the widest destination choice, which makes it the default option for most Waterlooville residents despite not being the very closest. Havant station has substantial car parking, including the station's own car park plus nearby pay-and-display and private parking options on streets such as Elmleigh Road right behind the station.

Bedhampton railway station

Bedhampton is the closest station to Waterlooville as the crow flies, sitting on the same Portsmouth–London Waterloo line as Havant but as a smaller, quieter stop with fewer trains calling. It's a good option if you're happy with a less frequent service in exchange for a shorter trip to the platform, but check the timetable carefully since not every London-bound train stops there.

Cosham railway station

Cosham is roughly 90 miles from London Waterloo and is served by South Western Railway and other operators running towards London and along the south coast. It has a staffed station car park with standard pay-and-display charging (hourly, daily, weekly and season-ticket rates), plus Blue Badge holder parking, and several private parking operators list spaces nearby for pre-booking. Cosham is also directly reachable from Waterlooville on First Bus's route 7, which runs via Cosham on its way into Portsmouth.

Rowlands Castle railway station

Rowlands Castle is a small country station on the line between Havant and Petersfield/Guildford. It's the furthest of the four from Waterlooville and has limited parking, so it suits a quieter, less frequent journey north rather than a regular commute.

Getting to each station without a car

Of the four stations, Havant and Cosham are the easiest to reach by public transport from Waterlooville. Stagecoach South's route 37 and 39 both call at Havant, and First Bus's route 7 runs via Cosham on its way to and from Portsmouth. Neither Bedhampton nor Rowlands Castle has a confirmed direct bus service from Waterlooville, so driving, cycling or a taxi is the more reliable way to reach those two.

Parking tips

If you're driving to catch a train, book ahead where you can — Havant and Cosham both have paid station car parks that fill up on weekday mornings, and third-party services list nearby residential or private spaces that can work out cheaper than the station car park for a full day away. Rowlands Castle and Bedhampton have much smaller car parks, so arriving early matters more than at the bigger stations.
