Chatbot for Business in Waterlooville: When a Simple One Is Enough, and When It Is Not
Many small businesses want a chatbot for the same five questions. Sometimes a simple one does the job. This guide helps you tell.
For a chatbot for your business near Waterlooville, Dean Keating in Horndean, Hampshire, builds AI agents that answer common questions across email, web and WhatsApp and hand over to a person when needed. It is not an off-the-shelf chatbot widget and it does not answer the phone. If a simple chatbot is all you need, you may not need him. Call or WhatsApp 07418 627304.
Call 07418 627304Start with the five questions
Write down the five questions customers ask you most. If the answers never change, you can often put them on a page and a basic chat widget will repeat them. That is cheap and it is fine, and we would not tell you otherwise.
Things change when the answer depends on who is asking, or when an enquiry needs something done afterwards: a follow-up, a booking, a quote.
A pub example
The directory lists 31 pubs and bars as of 10 October 2026 (see Pubs & Bars, and our best pubs ranking). Picture one of them. Messages arrive about food times, whether the match is on, and whether a table is free for a birthday on Saturday.
The first two are fixed answers, and a simple chatbot copes. The third is a booking enquiry. Someone has to check the diary, reply, and chase if the customer goes quiet. If the manager is working the bar, the message waits.
What Dean builds instead
He does not sell a chatbot product. He builds AI agents for the jobs on his website's list: answering common questions across email, web and WhatsApp, sorting and routing messages, booking into the diary, sending updates, confirmations and reminders, and escalating to a person. They are installed in the tools the business already uses, and the team is trained to work with them.
It does not answer the phone. If calls are your problem, you need a different service.
How to choose
- The same few answers on a web page. A simple chatbot is usually enough, and an installed agent would be more than you need.
- Replies on WhatsApp and email as well as the website. Many simple chatbots cover only the website, so check which channels are included.
- Following up until someone books. This is agent territory; a basic widget answers and stops.
- A person to take over awkward cases. Ask how the handover works, whichever you choose.
A quick test before you buy
Take three real messages from your own inbox, including one awkward one, and ask each provider to show how their system would answer. Check that it does not invent opening hours or offers, that it hands the awkward one to a person, and that you can read everything it has sent in your name. A chatbot that cannot pass that test is not ready, however cheap it is.
Most customers also use more than one route. A pub gets messages by email, through its website and on WhatsApp, and a chatbot on only one of them leaves the others waiting.
