Last orders outdoors: Hambledon Wine Estate's Courtyard closes for the season on 13 September — and Harvest Party tickets are live
The vineyard at Hambledon, PO7, has published the final dates for its walk-in al fresco Courtyard before it shuts until spring 2027. Attention now turns to the estate's Harvest Party on Friday 16 October, which this year adds a new tank-and-barrel tasting experience.
The hook: one weekend of outdoor dining left
Hambledon Wine Estate has published the closing dates for the Courtyard, its outdoor dining offer, and there is only one trading weekend left before it goes dark for the winter.
According to the estate's own Courtyard page, the space is open Friday to Sunday from 11 to 13 September — noon to 8pm on the Friday and Saturday with last orders at 8pm, and noon to 4pm on the Sunday with last orders at 4pm. From 14 September it is "closed until Spring 2027". The estate is shut altogether from 7 to 10 September.
For anyone in Waterlooville, Denmead, Horndean or the wider PO7 area who has been meaning to try it, that is a short window.
What the Courtyard is
The Courtyard sits in the heart of the estate's restaurant and operates on a walk-ins-only basis — no bookings. The menu is built around wood-fired cooking, including seasonally inspired pizzas and sides, aimed at both long shared lunches and a quicker bite after a vineyard tour.
Because it is outdoors with limited cover, the estate is upfront that it is weather-dependent and may close in poor conditions. That is where this year's change comes in: new for 2026, the Courtyard menu is also served at the Bar and on the Terrace, so the food carries on when the weather does not. It is a small operational fix, but a meaningful one for a walk-in venue in a British September.
Harvest Party on 16 October
The next fixed date in the estate's calendar is the Harvest Party 2026 on Friday 16 October, running 7pm to 11pm in the restaurant at £65 per person, marking the end of this year's harvest.
The published ticket includes a glass of Blanc de Blancs and a signature Harvest Cocktail on arrival, roaming canapés and seasonal snacks served until 9.30pm, and live music through the evening from the band Carterello. Wine Club members get 15 per cent off, and the estate says ticket numbers are limited.
New for 2026 is an optional add-on, the Grape to Glass Tasting Experience, at 6pm or 7.30pm for an extra £20 per person. Over 30 to 45 minutes it covers three tasting samples of finished wines with an informal guided tasting, insight into the 2026 harvest, and the chance to taste base wines straight from tank or barrel. It is booked as an add-on at the same time as the party ticket.
The wider year-round offer
The restaurant itself runs Wednesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 11pm, and Sunday 10.30am to 5pm, with lunch served Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 2pm and dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 6.30pm to 8pm. Head chef Robert Mcleary leads the kitchen, and the estate added a four-course seasonal and cellar tasting menu on Saturdays for 2026, alongside a Wednesday-to-Friday set lunch at £40 for two courses and £48 for three.
There is also a monthly programme at the Cellar Door Shop that continues past the Courtyard's closure: Wine Wednesdays on the second Wednesday of each month, 6.30pm to 7.30pm at £14, with a same-day discount on bottles and cases; a complimentary monthly Sip & Shop tasting from noon to 4pm offering up to twelve tastes as the Enomatic machine selection is refreshed; and a monthly wine-and-book club, 6.30pm to 7.30pm at £9.
Why it matters locally
Hambledon Wine Estate is on East Street in Hambledon, with a Waterlooville postal address at PO7 4RY, inside the South Downs National Park. The estate describes itself as England's oldest commercial vineyard, established in 1952 — making a genuine visitor-economy anchor for the PO7 catchment, rather than a business the area merely borders.
Full opening times and details are on the estate's own pages for The Courtyard and the Harvest Party 2026.
