Waterlooville residents aged 50 and over can attend a free afternoon of health checks, practical advice and activity tasters at Waterlooville Community Centre on Friday 11 September.

The Live Longer Better event is due to run from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at the centre in Maurepas Way. Havant Borough Council says organisations and charities from across the borough will be there with support intended to help people remain active and independent as they get older.

What visitors can expect

The published programme includes free health checks, travel and volunteering advice, mental-health support and Functional Fitness MOTs. The organisers describe the MOT as a simple assessment of strength, balance and flexibility. It is intended to help participants understand the physical abilities used in everyday life, but it should not be treated as a diagnosis or a replacement for medical advice.

Four free activity tasters are also listed. Circle dancing is scheduled for 12.30pm to 1.15pm, followed by beginners' circuits from 1.30pm to 2.15pm. A Steady and Strong session runs from 2.30pm to 3.15pm, and Zumba Gold is planned for 3.30pm to 4.15pm.

Residents can choose the parts of the afternoon that are most useful to them. The organisers say people may attend whether they already feel active and well or have started to notice changes in how they feel.

Booking and parking details

The main event is advertised as free. Functional Fitness MOT appointments must be reserved in advance with a specific time selected, while places for the activity tasters also need to be booked through the Get Up and Go website. Groups of two or more can ask the Get Up and Go team for booking help through its public council email address.

Waterlooville Community Centre is at 10 Maurepas Way, Waterlooville, PO7 7AY. The official event page says free parking is available, but visitors should first try the yellow bays at the back of the centre and obtain the relevant permit from reception.

Anyone using the adjoining Asda parking for longer than three hours is told to complete the form at the community-centre reception. Residents should check the current parking instructions on arrival and allow time to complete the form if needed.

The venue is operated by Waterlooville Area Community Association CIO, a registered local charity. The event itself is promoted by Havant Borough Council and Get Up and Go Havant, giving residents two current official sources for the practical details.

Booking availability, the programme and arrangements may change. Residents can check Havant Borough Council's event announcement and the official Get Up and Go booking page before travelling.
